It’s Summerlicious! The ‘Licious series is a bi-annual two-week long prix fixe bonanza anticipated by eager foodies in Toronto in the winter (Winterlicious) and over the summer (Summerlicious). Participating restaurants create three-course prix fixe menus for lunch and/or dinner available exclusively at this time. It’s great promotion and value, and encourages a lot of people to try new cuisines or visit restaurants that might otherwise be an expensive treat. This year’s Summerlicious events run from July 4th to July 20th.
My first Summerlicious outing this year was date night at Mideastro on Yorkville (27 Yorkville Avenue). We are both easily excited about trying different cuisines, and the fusion of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influences of this one seemed especially intriguing. Check out their Summerlicious menu ($35 dinner). Everything sounds so good! We made a reservation for 8pm on a Saturday night and it wasn’t too busy when we arrived.
We shared our meals and ordered different things for each course of the meal:
But first! We were offered a bread bouquet with three accompanying sides that included hummus, eggplant, or sweet chili. Loved each one. I think I ate five pieces of bread :O
Appetizer 01. BLACK TRUFFLE CARPACCIO
grass fed AAA beef, arugula, parmigiano reggiano, balsamic pomegranate reduction, dwarf peaches
AMAZING. We were both really impressed with this.
Appetizer 02. CEVICHE MIMOSA
ahi tuna, candied tassos olives, mimosa, labana zatar and honey chantilly, rocoto, pistachio dust, black radish
We both enjoyed the black truffle carpaccio more, but this was also very much a winning appetizer!
Main 01. TILAPIA MOUSSAKA
grilled eggplant medallions, kale, swiss chard, kalamata olives, roma tomatoes, labane fennel cream, warm tahini and lemon sauce
I was very happy with the size, presentation, and deliciousness of this main.
Main 02. CAST IRON BEEF STRIPLOIN 6OZ
grass fed AAA, spanish home fries, honey mushrooms, asparagus, spinach, white truffle oil
This is definitely the item to get for the most value of your money. So much food, and everything was incredible. The steak was cooked a perfect medium-rare and nicely marinated.
Dessert 01. WHITE CHOCOLATE PANNA COTTA
coconut cream, mixed berry chilled sangria
This was good! I didn’t really taste the coconut cream though. It was probably overpowered by the sangria a bit. Enjoyed it though!
Dessert 02. STRAWBERRY MOUSSE
turkish coffee, spiced white chocolate chilled soup
Neither of the desserts particularly blew me out of the water, but I enjoyed both and particularly this one. The contrast of taste between the mousse and the surrounding soup worked really well together for me.
We were both really happy with our first Summerlicious restaurant and our first time visiting this place! The restaurant is sleek in design but still romantically lit. We had great service, ambiance, and delicious food. Also absolutely enjoyed the presentation of each dish served to us.
