My friends and I watched Guardians of the Galaxy on Tuesday night at Scotiabank Theatre and were looking for a meal afterwards. After doing a bit of walking, we stopped at Red Tomato (321 King Street West) around 8:30pm for an inexpensive dinner.
Red Tomato is normally located downstairs from Fred’s Not Here but I guess because it was a quiet Tuesday night, menus from both restaurants were served upstairs while happy hour was downstairs. The four of us were hungry and discussed getting 5-6 “graze and share” dishes for our table. Each dish was only $7-9.
So good! We loved this and wish we had more, but it’s a fair enough amount for the price.
POTTED DUCK CONFIT
I had too much of the mustard and horseradish on my first serving, haha. I’m not a huge fan of pickles and didn’t try any. The duck confit was good. We asked for a bread basket (we didn’t get one in the beginning of our meal and our server told us we got the last one) so that we could finish off all of the duck confit.
PULLED PORK QUESADILLA
A little thin and bland, but enjoyed the bean salad.
I usually love shrimp but found this a little hard and I just wasn’t as big of a fan of this as my friends were. The sauce was a little too sweet for me.
We ordered this after finding out the scallops were already sold out for the evening. It was alright; I think fried calamari is usually a safe choice.
PULLED PORK TACOS
We waited a while for these and they were okay. They were served soft shell.
The overall ambiance of the place is nice, being on King Street, though the food itself wasn’t particularly exceptional. Not bad at all for the price we paid at around $15 per person though. Service was pretty good if not just a tiny bit scattered. Not a place I’d seek to visit but a good enough spot if you’re in the area hungry and on a budget.
