Restoran Malaysia

Kevin and I had dinner at Restoran Malaysia (815 Major Mackenzie Drive East), a popular restaurant in Richmond Hill known for its mix of Asian culinary dishes. The restaurant is located on the southeast corner of Bayview and Major Mackenzie. It was my first time here though Kevin was already a fan of the place, particularly of their curry dishes. It was a Friday night around 7:30pm, but somehow even busier than I was expecting it to be for a place in Richmond Hill!

We were seated after maybe about half an hour, which felt longer since we were already so hungry. Even though it was super busy, our server was very friendly and attentive. We noticed in general that their team was very efficient in attending to all their guests and cleaning up for the next ones to get seated right away, too.

TOM YAM SEAFOOD

We shared one of my favourite type of soups, a Thai-style sour and spicy tom yam with seafood. I really enjoyed this! The broth was a lot more tomato-y than I was expecting, but it was delicious. Would have definitely loved to have more of this. Our server brought us an extra bowl to share the soup.

NASI GORING

Craving rice, I ordered the Indonesian fried rice which was a massive dish for $10. I loved it, and it wasn’t too spicy. It was so much; we got our leftovers to-go. I also really enjoyed the shrimp chips! We also ordered curry and poured a little bit of it onto the shrimp chips and rice.

So good! The curry dishes here are apparently must-haves, and I can see why after trying this one.

BUBUR PULUT HITAM

DELICIOUS. I was a huge fan of this dessert. Super sweet, and the small portion was a perfect size for two of us after such a heavy meal. There’s actually a lot of black glutinous rice pudding under all of that cream!

I love this restaurant! The food, service, and atmosphere were fantastic. I thought the prices were great for the quality and amount of food served to us, and it wasn’t a long wait for our food after we were seated and had ordered. Though it got a lot less busier and crowded, there was still a line up after we left sometime after 9pm. I would definitely come here again in Richmond Hill, and try one of their drinks to go with dinner!
